Welcome
Mindset and Beliefs
Thank you so much for your interest in this mindset course.
Like you, I live with a “reactive” dog, though you will hear in this course, why I don’t like referring to my best buddy Rusty that way.
Aside from a dog guardian I am also a life coach and when I realized how drastically everything I learned and teach positively impacted all aspects of my life including that with my dog, this course was born. You will see that what I propose in this course has almost universal application.
Most everything boils down to getting valuable insight into how your brain works and to becoming aware of and questioning beliefs.
Invitation
I hope you will enjoy this course. If you want to dive into thoughtwork deeper, to be more secure in being yourself, then you know where to find me if you would like to coach with me. I am just one contact form away…
Course Overview
This course originally ran in December 2021.
The course is self-paced. It consists of a workbook with background information and exercises and 5 video’s, that can be watched at your own leisure. You will also find the recordings of 2 Zoom-calls that took place when the course originally ran.
Here’s a brief overview of what’s in the course. Detailed information can be found further down.
Video’s 1 and 2 are all about creating awareness of how your brain works. How else can you decide to change something or not? Video 3 breaks down how you can go about changing your thoughts and how to feel everything, all of which comes together in the coaching of video 4. This is recapped in video 5 which also discusses avoidance behaviors, what is within and outside of our control and what happens when we want other people to change.
The Materials
Here’s the link to the workbook.
Video 2 introduces the concept of breaking down situations that occur in your life using a model that links our thoughts to our results. This ties in to the good dog exercise, the good dog guardian exercise and the what am I making it mean exercise.
Video 3 is all about what you can do to change once you have all that awareness. How do you go about changing your beliefs? How can you avoid the blame game and stop guilting yourself. And how do feel everything without suppressing or avoiding it?

Video 4, is a recording of a coaching session with Naomi, who has 2 dogs. She brings the topic to the table of feeling guilty about sometimes preferring one dog over the other because of the reactivity of one of them. I have annotated the video so you can see how all the concepts of the first three videos apply.
Video 5 recaps the coaching with Naomi and what we can learn from it. It discusses why we cover up feelings with social media scrolling, eating, and yes even by reading more about dog training. Finally I talk about what’s going on when we try to change or control other people, like our family members and other dog guardians, so we can feel better.

Do you sometimes find it hard to tell people your dog is not friendly on walks? What will they say? What if they don’t like you?
This was the question sent in for today’s Zoom. I hope you’ll find my answers useful.

Have you ever felt discouraged or disappointed when your dog slips us just when you thought it was going so well?
This was the topic of the second Zoom call.
